Haptic Alarm System (Capstone)
Senior year thesis, Chatham University
Senior immersive media thesis project: a haptic-based alarm system designed to replace audio alerts in critical medical environments such as the NICU.
My capstone thesis project for immersive media is a haptic-based alarm system aimed at replacing the alarm system in medical environments like the NICU.
Audio alarms in clinical spaces are pervasive and overlapping, leading to alarm fatigue — where staff become desensitized over time. The system replaces audio alerts with targeted haptic feedback delivered through a wearable fob, letting staff respond to distinct signals without adding to the noise.
Built with Arduino hardware for the haptic actuators and a C# and .NET backend for alarm routing and priority management.
