Jimmy
A machine learning robot built around the concept of homeostasis. Uses a solar panel and photocell to seek light and self-sustain. Later repurposed as a cat toy.
Jimmy is a robot designed around one biological concept: homeostasis. Using a solar panel and a photocell, the robot continuously seeks light sources to maintain its charge — approximating the self-sustaining drive found in living systems.
The machine learning component governs the navigation and search behavior, letting the robot adapt its light-seeking strategy based on environmental feedback rather than following a fixed algorithm.
After the academic work was done, Jimmy was repurposed as a cat toy. He was well received. Both applications — homeostatic robot and autonomous cat entertainment — were successful, which feels like a meaningful outcome.
